McKee Chalaine Blue Egg Cup

If McKee ever did a rare color, Chalaine blue had to be it.  Made as one of the Opaques, it was done in 1931 according to Weatherman II in her book Colored Glassware of the Depression Era.  It is shown on page 29  of Barbara Mauzy's book, McKee Kitchen Glass of the Depression years.  (it is also on the cover of that book)  As I discovered in the manufacture of Jadite and lectured on the subject, this glass was made by combining unsold cobalt blue and milk glass.  The cobalt blue in this item has been well blended but the milk glass has not and can be seen swirled into the mixture.  No Thorium salts were introduced into this color and it will not glow under a black light.  There are two infinitely small chips on the base of this cup that can't be seen with the naked eye but can be felt. Too small to photograph. There also is an unmixed blue band around the small cup edge as seen in the photo from the manufacturing process.  The egg cup has a two-part mold seam that can be seen as it was assembled from two same shaped pieces.  It measures 4.25" tall by 2.75" wide on the big end.  Shipping is USPS priority and insurance cost is dependent on the price it sells for.
